“You can do the hard things!” – Helping your students cope with anxiety.
March 8 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
In this seminar, we will discuss the importance of appropriate accommodations for managing student anxiety. We will discuss how accommodations tend to facilitate avoidance by allowing youths to not engage in activities that invoke anxious feelings. Within this seminar, we will discuss the importance of an encouraging approach rather than avoidance as well as the use of positive reinforcement for brave behavior, positive messages (i.e. we can do hard things), and modeling coping behavior.
Topical seminars are offered monthly by UMass School of Psychology graduate students in partnership with the Birch Project.
Certification of Completion awarded for PDP credits.
